First GRANITE User Group West Technical Meeting

We have discussed the idea of holding a Technical meeting in the Western Suburbs on the months opposite the Loop meetings. At yesterday’s GRANITE meeting, we decided that PSC will have the pleasure and the honor to host the first of these meetings at its Schaumburg office on Monday, March 15th from 3pm – 7pm.  Our office is on the 5th floor in suite 500.  (Google Maps link is here.)

We also decided that the main topic of these meetings will be XPages. Specifically, Mike McGarel and Roy Rumaner will be starting everyone off on how to build an XPage application. Where do you start, what do you need to know and how does it work with an existing Notes application.

They are going to use Declan Lynch’s excellent 54 step tutorial as the focus of this project. At the first meeting we will be walking everyone through the first ten steps (more if time permits) in his tutorial. We will then ask everyone to do the next ten on their own before the next meeting.

If you want to start reading through the tutorial before the meeting, it can be found at

Please let us know if you are interested in this idea and if you are going to attend this meeting. If you have any other topic ideas, we are also open to hearing them.

We would like to get a count of how many people will be attending.  That will determine which room we will use for the meeting.  Roy started a thread on LinkedIn.  Please respond there or on our blogs.

GRANITE in the suburbs?

If you are a Lotus professional in or around Chicago, did you ever you feel that you wanted to come to one of the GRANITE meetings but didn’t want to make the trip downtown?  Roy Rumaner is looking to start a suburban chapter of GRANITE.  He has a discussion going on LinkedIn.

So, if you’re interested, join the discussion and show your support for the idea.  And if you’re not already on LinkedIn, this is a good opportunity to join and connect with other professionals around our town.

MWLUG is coming next week

There’s a bit more than 1 week left before MWLUG kicks off in Chicago on August 27th.  If you haven’t registered yet, do so and do so soon.  If you live in Midwest and particularly around Chicago and are a Lotus user and fan, you almost have no reason not to attend.  For myself, I’m looking forward to attending a conference where I don’t have to travel out of town.

PSC, while sponsoring the event, will be presenting 3 separate sessions.

Integration and Coexistence: Leveraging Lotus and Microsoft products to build better solutions” by John Head.  While John and I usually co-present this session at Lotusphere, the 1-hour format of LUG conferences makes it kind of silly to have 2 presenters up there.  So this will be John all himself.

Enabling your Applications with Complete Rich Text Editing on the Web” by yours truly.

Implementing DAOS and ID Vault” by Luis Guirigay.  Luis will spend the 2 days prior to MWLUG teaching a Domino 8.5 upgrade workshop.  So all topics of new and exciting features of 8.5 will be fresh on his mind.  Come by and ask questions.

Hope to see you all there.

MWLUG conference 2009 registration opens today

And don’t forget to register for the Notes & Domino 8.5 upgrade workshop to be held in the 2 days prior to the start of the conference.

Midwest Lotus User Group Conference 2009

The Lotus User Groups of the Mid-West are pleased to announce the Midwest Lotus User Group Conference 2009.  This two-day event will be held on August 27 & 28, 2009 at the IBM Center located in bustling downtown Chicago:  Hyatt Center, 71 South Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60606

The Lotus User Groups from Central Ohio, GRANITE (Chicago), Minnesota, Northeast Ohio, Northeast Wisconsin, Southern Wisconsin and West Michigan have joined forces to bring Lotus Users and Partners an opportunity to learn, network, and socialize with each other.

In an intimate setting, the two days will be packed with opportunities to exchange knowledge and compare experiences with colleagues in the industry.  The event will allow participants to get an inside look at solutions and associated products that make Lotus products the leading collaboration solutions for the enterprise.  An intensive day and a half of learning with technical sessions and workshops will be capped off with fun times as the group has the opportunity to enjoy local Chicago attractions.

“This will be a great opportunity for the Lotus user community to connect and discuss the platform at an in-depth level,” said Richard Moy, President of the Granite Lotus User Group (Chicago).

“This is a great opportunity for users in the Midwest to attend a premier Lotus user event close to home, and network with a broader segment of the community”, added Barb Skedel, President of Northeast Ohio Lotus User Group.

Given the popularity of the event, attendance will be limited, so it will be important for participants to make their reservations early.  More details will be available soon. Registration begins on June 1st at
